The right tools!
I thought I was using a good comb. Not! Turns out having a special detangling comb and a brush that was recommended by a salesperson at Sally Beauty Supply make all the difference. SO much easier to get the knots out. And with much less breakage. Wish I’d figured this out sooner. Honestly, I was skeptical about any brush working in SG’s hair, but I figured for $4 it was worth...

No new pictures
I continue to slack on the cornrowing (is that even a word?) and just end up doing simple braids right before bedtime. It seems quicker, but really it either means daily combing out & re-braiding, or major risk of matting. Sigh. I really do have trouble keeping up with Sassy Girl’s hair. Honestly, I just can’t wait until she’s old enough to shower and comb it herself! ...

two things this white mama has learned:
cornrows take WAY too much time for a school/work night
bigger braids, like the French braids I did tonight, are actually harder to make neat than smaller braids/cornrows. But they do take less time.
That’s all. Nothing earth shattering. But then, I am writing about hair.

Why I'm just now trying to learn to cornrow...
I was lucky enough to have a fabulous woman care for my daughter for the first 3 years of her life. She also took care of my daughter’s hair, which I’ll admit was a great relief for this white mama. I was always determined not to be the mama who couldn’t care for her girl’s hair, but honestly, I was/am intimidated by how much work it is to care for black or biracial...
